This is an interesting part of the story of my involvement in a breeding program -
.....3 years into the breeding program and after all the help I gave Rachael, much while she holidayed overseas, she eventually she returned to Australia bringing a new boyfriend with her. They collected my baby Luci and took her out to her farm to nurse her puppies. I didn’t hear much over the next few weeks and tried not to worry. I asked on a few occasions if I could come and see Luci, but got no reply. Eventually Rachael called me and invited me out to the farm; she made sure to ask me to bring Rebel. She referred to Luci ‘that dog’ which offended me a bit and I mentioned that she has a name and it is Luci. Rachael wanted to make sure I bought Rebel.
When I arrived at the farm it was quite strange....no dogs barking at the gate or any friendly welcome as it once was. It was quiet, no people or dogs....just Rachael’s new boyfriend who let me in the gate and led Rebel off to an empty enclosure. We waited at the next gate until Rachael came through. I was excited to see my baby Luci and her puppies....trying to ignore the uneasy feeling. We went up the stairs and took a seat on the balcony. It all seemed pretty formal and somewhat prepared.
Finally they let Luci out and we were reunited...although it was wonderful to see Luci , Rachael and her boyfriend just sat there long faced staring at me cuddling Luci. Right at that moment I really started to feel something was wrong. Rachael began to tell me how it was no longer a good arrangement to have both Luci and Rebel together anymore....then quickly that led into deciding for me that it would be better if I just kept Rebel. I was gobsmacked....almost 3 years raising Luci from a puppy I was suddenly facing not getting her back. These dogs are normally inseparable from one other, and from me. My heart sank, I felt sick. Rachael and I began to argue. In the meantime I hadn’t noticed the boyfriend sneak off.
I choose to leave before things got out of hand and went back downstairs. I went to collect Rebel and he was gone! ...the guy had snuck off and taken him while Rachael kept me busy. I started to yell “get me Rebel back now....you are trying to steal my dogs!” The guy began rallying reinforcements by ringing the neighbors saying “listen to this guy we got down here....listen to him”. No matter how much I yelled and screamed they refused return either of my dogs. I eventually had no choice other than violent force but to drive away from the farm having lost both my babies.....3 years of love and companionship. I am single and have no children....these dogs are my life, my reason to face each day, and there I was driving away alone feeling sick to the stomach. Despite everything I had done for her and her ‘breeding program’ Rachael had stolen my dogs.........
